Your English and maths GCSEs must be at least grade 4.

Grade 6-5 in Core & Additional Sciences and grade 5 in maths or if doing separate sciences grade 6 in chemistry, grade 5 in one other science & grade 5 in maths.

Course Overview

Chemistry is everywhere in the world around you. It is the study of matter and energy and the interaction between them. If you are interested how chemicals are made and analysed and how to extract elements from Earth’s crust, then chemistry is for you.

What will I study?

ou will study the structure of atoms, molecules and elements, how they interact with each other and how to measure reactions. The units taught are: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry and biochemistry.

How is this course assessed?

Three, equally weighted, 2 hour exams and required practicals.

What can I study with this course?

Because of its emphasis on critical thinking, analysis and mathematical skills, chemistry sits well with most other A levels. Many students study it with mathematics and the other sciences whilst others use it to balance out with arts or humanities subjects to give a more rounded portfolio of qualifications at level 3.
