This is a two year course for those wishing to work with children in either early years, primary or special needs settings. If you wish to work in any form of education or care sector career, an understanding of early developmental years is essential knowledge and experience.
What will I study?
The units studied cover all aspects of understanding and supporting children and how to apply this knowledge in the workplace, including Child Development; Play and Learning; Safeguarding in Early Years and Health and Safety in Early Years Settings.
How is this course assessed?
The course is assessed through coursework which takes the form of assignments, successful completion of placement and external assessment.
What can I study with this course?
Many students go on to further study at universities such as Liverpool, Chester and Edge Hill for Primary or Early Years Teaching; or directly into employment as a nursery practitioner, as the qualification provides a licence to practice as an early years practitioner. This course compliments Health & Social Care qualifications and enables students to have care sector knowledge across all age ranges.

Specific entry requirements for this course
A-Level entry requirements
At least four 5s at GCSE. Your English and maths GCSEs must be at least grade 4.
BTEC entry requirements
At least five 4s at GCSE. A grade 4 in math, English language, or literature, and a grade 3 in the other subjects is required.
